JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Tim Olimpiade Komputer Indonesia 2012 yang bertanding dalam ajang International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) ke-24 di Milan, Italia, 23-30 September 2012, berhasil mempersembahkan satu medali perak dan tiga medali perunggu. Tim Indonesia menempati posisi ke-19 dari klasemen umum negara-negara peserta.
Medali perak dipersembahkan Nathan Azaria (SMAN 2 Purwokerto). Adapun medali perunggu dipersembahkan Jonathan Irvin Gunawan (SMAK 1 BPK Penabur Bandung), Cakra Wishnu Wardhana (SMAN 8 Yogyakarta), dan Muhammad Aji Muharrom (MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong).
Fauzan Joko, humas tim Olimpiade Komputer Indonesia,  mengatakan, prestasi ini meningkat signifikan jika dibandingkan keikutsertaan Indonesia dalam IOI sebelumnya di Pattaya, Thailand. Ketika itu, tim Indonesia mendapat dua medali perunggu.
Tahun ini IOI diikuti 317 peserta dari 81 negara. Nilai tertinggi dalam kompetisi ini (absolute winner) diraih oleh Johnny Ho dari Amerika Serikat yang berhasil mengumpulkan nilai sempurna 600 pada dua hari pertandingan. Ia sekaligus mematahkan dominasi Gennady Korotkevich dari Belarusia yang tiga kali berturut-turut menempati peringkat pertama di tiga ajang IOI sebelumnya.
Juara umum diraih oleh tim dari Republik Rakyat China dan Rusia yang sama-sama berhasil meraih empat medali emas. Namun, jika dihitung berdasarkan perolehan poin, China masih lebih unggul.
Fauzan menambahkan, dengan 17 kali keikutsertaan tim Indonesia di ajang IOI sejak tahun 1995 hingga 2012, secara keseluruhan 34 medali telah berhasil dikumpulkan yang terdiri atas dua emas, 14 perak, dan 21 perunggu. Tercatat hanya di tahun 1996 dan 1999 Indonesia gagal meraih medali. Di tahun 2003, Indonesia gagal bertanding ketika IOI dilaksanakan di Kenosha, Amerika Serikat, karena masalah visa.
"Apa pun yang telah dihasilkan dalam kompetisi kali ini kita patut berbangga dan memberi penghargaan setinggi-tingginya untuk semangat, perjuangan, dan pengorbanan yang telah dilakukan para siswa, pembina, serta pihak Departemen Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan yang telah bekerja dengan segala upaya untuk dapat meraih hasil yang terbaik," papar Fauzan, Minggu (30/9/2012), di Jakarta.
Tim Indonesia akan tiba kembali di Tanah Air pada Senin (1/10/2012).
